La Castanyada és una festa popular de Catalunya que se celebra el dia de Tots Sants, tot i que darrerament se n'ha desplaçat la celebració a la vigília d'aquesta diada, o a altres dies propers. Com el halloween dels països anglosaxons, prové d'una antiga festa ritual funeràia. Consisteix en un àpat en que es mengen castanyes, panellets, moniatos i fruita confitada. La beguda típica de la 'castanyada' és el moscatell. Pels volts d'aquesta celebració, les castanyeres venen al carrer castanyes torrades i calentes. En molts llocs, el dia de Tots Sants, els confiters organitzaven rifes de panellets i fruita confitada.Sembla que el costum d'ingerir aquestes menges -altament energètiques- prové del fet que durant la nit de Tots Sants, vigília del dia dels morts, es tocava a morts sempre seguit fins a la matinada; amics i parents ajudaven els campaners a fer aquesta dura tasca, i tots plegats consumien aquests aliments per no defallir.
Se sol representar amb la figura d'una castanyera: una dona vella, vestida amb roba pobra d'abric i amb mocador al cap, davant d'un torrador de castanyes per a la venda al carrer.
